I am interested in the physical-biological interactions in ocean environments mostly affected by climate change such as high latitude ecosystems. My PhD work focuses on the study of the spatial and temporal distribution of zooplankton in the Norwegian Sea. I am using underwater acoustics, numerical modelling and statistical methods, to increase the knowledge of dynamics in zooplankton ecosystems to understand them, contribute to their preservation, and hopefully being able to face future earth global challenges.

I’m a PhD student at the Department of Geosciences, Aarhus University, within the GreenTrace Project. I specialize in arctic paleooceanography research with a focus on X-Ray CT image processing, and numerical methods. My doctoral work focuses on developing and refining Machine Learning segmentation models for CT scans, especially for trace fossils and sedimentary structures, with the aim of using bioturbation traces as a paleoenvironmental proxy and quantifying past carbon storage in the Arctic.

Occasionally I also dabble in a bit of marine geochemistry, paleomagnetics, and paleoclimate studies.

My research interests lie at the intersection of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in Arctic marine systems, with a keen focus on trait-based ecology. My role in Sea-Quester involves revealing how Arctic benthic biodiversity governs carbon fate along ice-impacted gradients, treating macroalgae-macrozoobenthic-sediment networks as connected systems rather than isolated habitats. My current day-to-day typically centres on developing and applying trait-based analytical frameworks to understand how benthic invertebrate communities mediate carbon burial in polar seas, with the aim of moving beyond simple diversity metrics toward mechanistic predictions of ecosystem function under environmental change.
